Sevilla captain and legend Jesus Navas may have just one more game in Nervion left in his career, as he looks set to leave his hometown club this summer.

The 38-year-old reached 500 games with Sevilla on Wednesday night, and was seen in tears during the game. Manager Quique Sanchez Flores, after calling him ‘essential’, told the press that the emotion was down to reaching the milestone with his beloved Sevilla.

However it is hard not to suspect that it has something to do with Relevo‘s report that he has told the club of his intention to leave this summer, when his contract expires. Sevilla had delayed their plans until the end of the season due to the economic uncertainty at the club, but had reportedly intended to offer him a new extension, albeit with a reduced wage.

His decision has been met with shock at Sevilla, who believed that they could persuade him to continue at the club next season, and they may still try to get him to reconsider.

An ever-present on the right side at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan save for his hiatus at Manchester City, Navas is an institution at the club, and his absence will be sorely felt if he does end up departing. It is not clear if he will retire or seek a new challenge, and it is not ruled out that he is in the Spain squad for the Euros this summer.
